There are two types of hosting services that are available for your website or blog. You can choose shared hosting, which means that you are sharing the space on the server with other websites, other blogs and other types of internet pages and there is VPS hosting, which virtual private server is hosting. VPS hosting enables you to use only one server, for your website, for your information.
The main difference between the type hosting plans is the difference of the shared space. Although, there are certain benefits that come along with using one sole server for your site through a private server – this comes at a cost.
How much does it cost to take advantage of cheap VPS hosting services? At upwards of one hundred dollars a month, you can experience quicker response times through their website and an increase in the security that comes with the site and you don’t have to worry about the other sites using more bandwidth and causing your site to become slow, or having to worry about who you are being networked with and how the activities on the site may affect yours. Godaddy and hostgator are among most popular VPS providers.

Nice article on VPS Servers. Many people find difficult to understand the various levels of webhosting.
Its important to understand that a VPS is lot more powerful than Reseller.
However, now a days VPS are not very costly. http://www.Mystarhost.com offers VPS for as low as $29.99 per month with free cPanel/WHM & 2 dedicated IPS.
VPN or virtual private network is just that a network that although set up on the Internet is suppose to have defined area’s so that you have some level of security. When you say dial up I suppose you mean to a company like a bank or company internal web site. Dial up is a more secure way of connecting as long as you have access parameters in place like software tokens although these can also be used in VPN applications. Dial up will not allow the speed connections that you can make with VPN’s.
having vps is a good idea. but it is costlier than shared hosting. vps gives more resources at your disposal. u can avoid bad neighborhood penalty by search engines. however, no hosting company, including godaddy and hostgator has been able to tell me at to what parameters should be weighed while choosing between shared hosting and vps. i am still not sure whether website speed on vps is better than shared hosting or not? at least, hostgator says that speed-wise bot r same more or less.
