Almost everyone who opens up shop online knows that the only way they can be successful is if they are able to drive good traffic to their website. The majority of websites (almost 85% of them) fail because their owners are unable to get good traffic or more appropriately drive more traffic to their website.
Now when it comes to traffic most websites get their traffic from leading search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. However in order to get organic search engine traffic you need to be able to somehow make it within the top 10 search results of these search engines which by no means is easy. One of the ways to get good traffic from both search engines and other websites is through active link building.
Generating backlinks
Now before we go into ways of generating organic backlinks let’s take some time out to understand how backlinks work. Each time you have a backlink from a top ranking (trustworthy) website a search engine such as Google will count that as a vote. This means that the more backlinks you have from trusted websites on the internet the more you will appear in search results. However many people misconceive that back linking (creating backlinks) is the only way to rise in search engine results which is wrong. There are other factors such as the age of the domain, activity of the domain, frequent updates, on page SEO, etc. so basically if you have a brand new domain and you manage to 1000 backlinks in a week you won’t be in the no.1 spot of Google or any other search engine for that reason but you will get a fair amount of traffic.
What is organic link building?
Organic link building is a special type of link building that is geared towards getting real people to click on your links as opposed to hoping a search engine will pick them up. However, just because the links are geared towards real people it does not mean that search engines won’t take them into account when ranking your website. Probably the biggest advantage of this type of link building is that you will see results from the day you start. You will in fact watch as people come to your website from the links you posted. If you are running an e-commerce website it could mean that you may probably be making your first sales within a week.
How it works?
Organic link building is simple one of the ways you can start is to have a few accounts with leading social networking websites such as twitter, Facebook, MySpace etc. you then if you don’t already have friends added to this start adding people to your list. In the case of twitter things are slightly different since you need to follow people and people will follow you back. The more people you have on your profile the more traffic you get because it’s to these people whom you will be marketing. Once you have a substantial list you can start with posting a little description of what you do (using keywords) with a link to your website. If the information you provide is good you can also offer people an incentive to retweet (in the case of twitter) your post to people on their list.
The other way of organic link building is through social bookmarking services. Social bookmarking services receive thousands of visitors every day. All you have to do is to create a profile and then start posting links with seo optimized interesting descriptions. With some bookmarking websites you can also post links to multiple pages of your website.
How does it affect your ranking?
Unknown to many people search engines such as Google and Yahoo regular crawl social bookmarking and social networking websites in order to determine daily trends. These websites are trusted by all leading search engines and so if your links are indexed by these search engines you are in fact rising in credibility. You don’t have to necessarily submit your link to Google’s directory in order to get noticed, this is probably a faster and more cost effective technique which when mixed in with other types of link building techniques can yield stellar results not to mention an organic flow of ongoing links and traffic.
